It is one of the 2016 World Book Day titles, and serves as a prelude to the six-part Star Wars: Adventures in Wild Space series. On December 6, 2016, Disney–Lucasfilm Press released the title for U.S. audiences exclusively as an eBook, with a sneak peek of Adventures in Wild Space: The Snare.
